The two-day event brought together hundreds of volunteers to advance construction on a new 10-home community designed to create lasting housing stability and opportunity.

Broward County is one of the nation’s most cost-burdened housing markets, but Habitat Broward is helping hardworking families achieve the dream of homeownership. With the help of longtime sponsors like GL Homes and Habitat Broward Board Chair and GL Homes CFO Maria Menendez, more families have access to safe, affordable housing. “Homeownership has the power to transform lives, strengthen families and build more resilient communities,” said Maria Menendez.

No construction experience is required at Women Build. Volunteers work under professional guidance while learning new skills and contributing to something larger than themselves.

Habitat Broward provides a hand up, not a hand-out to its partner families. Families are selected based on their need for housing, willingness to partner, and their ability to repay an affordable mortgage. Each future homeowner must invest in sweat equity, meaning every future homeowner must complete 300 hours of volunteer work before receiving the keys to their homes. Many earn those hours by helping build their own homes and those for their future neighbors.

Together, volunteers and future homeowners are building stronger families, stronger neighborhoods and a better tomorrow.
