In Southwest Florida, a recent event drew attention to the growing need to fight hunger while supporting the important work of Harry Chapin Food Bank.
At the nonprofit’s Naples distribution center, a creative collaboration between Harry Chapin Food Bank and GL Homes turned a mini-golf challenge into a powerful statement. Two GL Homes teams built three-hole putt-putt courses using 80 cans of green beans and 100 boxes of macaroni, items that will feed local families in need.
The impact went far beyond the competition itself. In total, 4,186 pounds of food were donated, helping provide meals for 3,488 children and seniors across the region. The event also coincided with a particularly difficult time of year, as summer months often bring increased demand to food banks. Children lose access to school meals, and some families experience reduced income.
In the end, the friendly competition was not just about creativity. It served as a reminder that even small acts, like donating a can or box of food, can make a meaningful difference.
Harry Chapin Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief nonprofit and the only Feeding America member in Southwest Florida, serving Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
The nonprofit rescues and distributes donated food and other grocery products through food distribution programs, feeding 250,000 people who are hungry each month.
