A little friendly competition never hurt anyone!
As part of the Harry Chapin Food Bank Pack the Pantry initiative, GL Homes employees from Valencia Trails in Naples and RiverCreek in Estero went head-to-head to see who could make the most meal kits in a two-hour competition at the food bank’s Naples warehouse.
Harry Chapin Food Bank clients were the true winners of the GL Homes competition. Meal kits included cereal, pasta, sauce, peanut butter & jelly, and shelf-stable milk. Each kit will feed a Southwest Florida family of four for two weeks.
Through its Summer of Service, GL Homes employees and their families worked feverishly for two hours to put together nutritious, substantive kits. To pay for the food used in these kits, GL Homes donated $10,000 to the food bank.
It was Valencia Trails that won by just five meal kits. In all, 891 kits were made.
Harry Chapin Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief nonprofit and the only Feeding America member in Southwest Florida, serving Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
The nonprofit rescues and distribute donated food and other grocery products through food distribution programs, feeding 250,000 people who are hungry each month.
